A slave cylinder is a hydraulic component most commonly found in a vehicle’s clutch system. It works together with the master cylinder to engage and disengage the clutch when you press the pedal.

When you press the clutch pedal:

• The master cylinder pushes hydraulic fluid through a line.
• That pressure moves the slave cylinder.
• The slave cylinder then pushes a rod or fork that disengages the clutch, allowing you to shift gears.
